If you happened to download a compiled Java file (.class extension) and decided to view the source code to see what’s going on, viewing with text editor won’t do any good. It’ll end up with output like these:

In order to view the source code, we need to decompile it. JAD is a good example. Just download the .zip file, extract and run. For Ubuntu users, it is recommended to download the statically linked version to avoid any errors upon execution. Extract the files in a directory, open terminal, change directory to the directory you extracted it, and type something like this:
$ ./jad filename.class
Then list the files in the directory using ls command, and you’ll noticed there’s a new file, filename.jad. Open it with any text editor.
$ gedit filename.jad
Now, you can view the source codes.

Ok, so one day you wake up, drink a few sips of your favourite coffee to start your day, turn on your computer and…. OMGWTF!!! You can’t boot into your Windows!! No matter how many times you pressed the reset button, Windows won’t boot at all. And it happens that you have a bunch of important files inside your My Documents folder or C:\ drive. Repairing Windows is a good idea, but what if it’s caused by virus infection?

Xanara Rescue LiveCD is based on Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) and developed by Xanda. It’s still under Beta version but it’s currently stable. Xanara Rescure LiveCD includes all necessary applications and programs for hard disk partitioning and formatting, backup and recovery, and virus scanner. Some examples are:
- Gparted - partitioning and formatting hard disk
- mintDisk - GUI disk mounting application
- TestDisk - recover lost partitions and make non-booting disk able to boot again
- Cmospwd - view cmos password, backup and erase cmos
- ClamAV/ClamTK - virus scanner with updated virus signature
It also includes other essential programs such as word processor, multimedia player, instant messenger and internet browser. So, in case if you have no idea how to use a particular tool or encountered a problem, just fire up Mozilla Firefox and google your way through.
- AbiWord Word Processor - open MS Office document files
- VLC Media Player - open audio and video files (i.e. mp3, wav, ogg, avi, mpeg, divx)
- Pidgin - multi-protocol IM (i.e. AIM, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, Google Talk)

The main advantage of this LiveCD is it’s GUI. Everything can be done via GUI without requiring any single command in the terminal. It’s the only recovery LiveCD which fully provides GUI for backup and recovery process, and it’s simplicity allows those who are not familiar with GNU/Linux to use. User-friendly, effortless, neat, yet contains a great package of powerful tools for recovery purpose.

Visit the Xanara Rescue LiveCD project page here to download and view latest updates.

What you’ll need:
- Snort (Intrusion Detection System)
- BASE (Basic Analysis and Security Engine)
- Apache2 (web server)

Instructions to install and configure can be found here. It is recommended to install the latest version of Snort and its rules for better compatibility and reduce false alerts. Visit www.snort.org/dl/ to check out the latest version.
I did found some errors when running Snort which is actually an issue with MySQL 5. It occurs when there is a huge period of time gaps between alerts (4 - 6 hours):
database: mysql_error: MySQL server has gone away
QL=UPDATE sensor SET last_cid = 0 WHERE sid = 1
One of the lazy easiest possible solution is to add this line at /etc/mysql/my.cnf
wait_timeout = 10000000
Some also reported this issue is gone after removing and reinstalling mysql. If you have any other solutions to resolve this problem, feel free to share it.

20 students from MMU Melaka Cisco Regional Academy has been given the opportunity to board into the Cisco Express at UTeM Ayer Keroh yesterday. Network on Wheels is a mobile showcase to demonstrate the latest technology from Cisco and its partners. Some examples of these technologies are Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco Self-Defending Network, Cisco Connected Real Estate (CCRE), Cisco IPICS (IP Interoperability Collaboration System) and Sypixx Networks.

Not just a normal 40-foot container. Everything inside it costs approximately US$1 million.

Due to the technical problem,MMLSMELAKA & MMLSCYBER are accessible via
internet at http://118.100. 149.74 until further notice. CITS is
trying to solve the issue.
The actual address is https://203.106.61.47, which uses secure HTTP or HTTPS instead of just normal HTTP.
Pictures below shows the difference between the phishing site and authenticated MMLS.

MMU Melaka teams departed from campus around 6.15 am and arrived at UiTM Shah Alam at 8.20 am. After the registration we had our breakfast and a short briefing for the whole competition from the organizer. At 10.00 am, we went to our labs for the theory exam. The theory exam is the first round of the competition for Degree and Diploma categories. Those who managed to be on the top 10 on the first round will be qualified to enter the final round. For open category, there’s no qualification round. The total results from networking practical and theory exam will determine the winner.
The theory exam was quite challenging. 60 questions to be done in 60 minutes. Which means that the average time for each question is just 60 seconds. For the Degree category, some of the questions are hard, and some are easy. I managed to finish it in 49 minutes, however, I didn’t get full marks and I thought I did bad. But when I heard other teams from other universities/colleges did worst, my confidence rises. Same goes to my 2nd teammate who also managed to get the same result as mine. We were quite confident that we’ll be going to the final round. Unfortunately, something unexpected happened. Because of confusion, my 3rd teammate unable to submit his results. That gave a big hit for us. But we just stay calm and keep thinking probably they’ll do something to get it counted.
The results were released after lunch, around 1.00 pm. Well, let’s just say luck wasn’t on our side. My 3rd teammate’s results were not submitted. We were unable to go to the final round. All other MMU Melaka teams in Degree category shares the same fate.
We didn’t blame anyone, and we were able to handle our stress. This competition gave some lessons to me, and I learned a lot not only about networking related stuff, but also teamwork and trust. I believe that if only my 3rd teammate’s results were submitted, we will be able to get into the top 10 or perhaps top 5 finalist. Overall, it’s a good experience and I’m glad to be given the opportunity to participate in this competition. It’s not a waste as we weren’t empty handed. We received Cisco t-shirts and water bottles..!!
The overall champion goes to MMU Cyberjaya. At least it’s MMU and not other universities. :p Congrats to them..!! Yes, there will always be next year and I’ll definitely participating again. See you guys in CNSC 2009~!!
