I’ve just bought my first ever thumbdrive last week from a LYN forumer and decided to make a review. It’s just a newbie review, but I’ll give it a try. :p (These are actual photos of my Sandisk 4GB Cruzer Micro).

Specs/Features:
(taken from Sandisk.com)
Capacities: 4GB
Retractable USB connector
Brilliant amber LED
U3 smart enabled
Loaded with the following U3 programs
- CruzerSync synchronization software
- SignupShield password manager
- SKYPE “Make video calls from PC to PC”
- McAfee-30 day trial
Dimensions: 7.94mm x 20.6mm x 57.15mm (D x W x L)
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 certified (backwards compatible with all USB 1.1 ports)
Compatible with Windows 2000, SP4 and XP*
One of the most interesting features of this thumbdrive is the U3 smart function. It enables user to install and run U3 applications in the thumbdrive without having to install anything in the hard disk. Which means you can bring along your softwares and just run it in any PCs. Unfortunately, it only supports Windows platform, so a little bit of disappointment for GNU/Linux users. U3 softwares can be downloaded at http://software.u3.com/.
Ok, enough about that, let’s see how it performs. I’ll be using SiSoft Sandra Lite SP1 to test the actual read/write speed.

The results were quite impressive. Of course it can’t beat the Corsair Voyager GT, but when comparing with other 4GB thumbdrives in it’s price range, this is by far the best I’ve seen.
Just because I bought this thumbdrive, it doesn’t mean I don’t have anything bad to say about it. The build quality of this thumbdrive is not as good as it looks. It feels like a cheap toy plastic and too lightweight which gives a negative impression once you touch it. If you’re trying to find a durable thumbdrive to fit your rough lifestyle, or if you’re a person who always drop things out of your pocket, I won’t recommend this thumbdrive to you.

Pros:
- Sleek design
- Capless
- Decent read/write speed
- U3 smart function
- Windows ReadyBoost
- Price/performance
Cons:
- Build quality
- U3 not supported for Linux

lm-sensors is a hardware monitoring application for linux. It basically monitors voltages (VCore, +12V, +3.3V, etc.), motherboard/CPU temperatures and also fan speed. It’s the same application which i use to monitor my P4 temperature in my previous post. This is a simple tutorial on how to install lm-sensors without any configurations.
First, install lm-sensors from apt-get or Synaptic
$sudo apt-get install lm-sensors
Then, run sensors-detect and answer Yes to all questions
$sudo sensors-detect
Reboot
$sudo reboot now
Next we need to install X Sensors. Go to Applications -> Add/Remove Applications. Type sensors in the search bar and you should see X Sensors
in the list. Tick the checkbox and click Apply Changes and wait until the installation finishes.

X Sensors will be listed in Applications -> System Tools.

Cisco Networking Skills Competition 2008 will be held at UiTM Shah Alam on 5th April 2008. This will be the 3rd CNSC organized by Cisco Malaysia. The objective of this competition is to promote and develop better understanding of core networking skills. It’s open to all CCNA students especially those who have taken CCNA 1 and CCNA 2. CNSC 2008 consists of 3 categories; Open, Diploma and Degree.
This is my first time participating in CNSC, and since MMU Melaka is the overall champion for CNSC 2007, it gave a lot of pressure for our team to defend our title this year. Only 2 teams are allowed to go through the final for each university/cisco local academy, which means we have to compete with each other in order to get into the finals.
These are the list of the participants for MMU Melaka.
Open Category:
Team 1: Foo Yong Chun, Wee Pei Xuan, Yong Guand-Da
Degree Category:
Team 1: Muhammad Lazuardi Rizki, Muhammad, Nugruho Harimukti
Team 2: R. Janagan, Prashanth Bhuva Kumar, Ehsan Atai
Team 3: Khairul Bariyyah Khiruddin, Nazirah, Nurul Hayati
Team 4: Lau Sie Kie, Aidil Izani Jafri, Akmal Hakim Md Taha
well.. wish us luck..!! and hopefully we’ll bring back the challenge trophy for this year~!! :p
